Q. What are the locations of each event?

A. Waterfront Winterfest events are being held at each of the following locations:

Bishop's Landing - 1477 Lower Water St

Foundation Place (at the foot of Salter St) – 1549 Lower Water St

Halifax Marriott Harbourfront – 1919 Upper Water St

Q. What are the hours of operation?

A. Friday

Bishop's Landing: 9am – 9pm

Foundation Place: 10am - 10pm

Saturday

Bishop's Landing: 9am – 9pm

Sunday

Q. What is the cost / Are there day bracelets?

A. A variety of the Waterfront Winterfest activities are free.

Q. Is there a beer tent / What are the hours?

A. The Waterfront Warehouse Patio will be extended as a licensed area to watch the Urban Butter Snowboard Showcase & Inflatable Screen broadcasting live CTV coverage of the Olympic events, for those of legal age to relax while enjoying a beer.

Q. Will there be Live Entertainment?

A. Live entertainment during Waterfront Winterfest includes the Urban Butter Snowboard Showcase with live DJ and light show as well as the CTV live Olympic feed on an inflatable 20’ x 30’ screen broadcasted live each night showcasing gold medal games and closing ceremonies.

Q. What is the Urban Butter Snowboard Showcase?

A. The Urban Butter Snowboard Showcase is a snowboarding competition that has taken place in the heart of Halifax for the past three years. By day, take the family and check out the athletes practicing on the manmade rails constructed from scaffolding. By night, watch the transformation unfold into the electrifying competition produced for your viewing pleasure. With qualifying rounds on Friday, and finals on Saturday.

Q. Do I have to Bring my Own Skates?

A. Yes, skaters are required to bring their own skates. Skate rentals will not be available.

Q. Will the Synthetic Ice Skating Rink Ruin my Skates?

A. It will not ruin your skates, you can use regular skates on it and then go and play on natural ice.

Q. Can I Walk on the Ice Surface without Skates?

A. Only skaters will have access to the ice surface. Example – moms and dads without skates will not be permitted on the ice surface to walk around with their children. This is both an issue of safety and prevention of unwanted debris getting onto the ice surface.

Q. Do Skaters require Helmets?

A. Helmets are not mandatory but are recommended for safety.

Q. How Long can I Skate on the Ice?

A. If there are line-ups, skaters will get to skate for 20-30 minutes. Skating and line-up times will vary depending on the number of participants.

Q. What is the Extreme Snow Sculpting Competition?

A. A team of professional snow artists called the “Snow Hackers” will create two large snow sculptures on the Halifax waterfront at Bishop's Landing. With snow blocks at 8’ tall and 10’ tall, the “Snow Hackers”will use chain saws, shovels, machetes and ice chisels to carve these masterpieces into Olympic themed snow sculptures.

Q. Weather dependant / Rain day?

A. Rain, snow, sleet or shine… it's go time!

Q. Where can I go to get Warm?

A. Warm-up at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront where Glow Parties will be on-site to help you thaw out. Kids remember to kick-off your boots and warm-up your toes in the Indoor Playland! Grab a hot chocolate at Starbucks while your children bounce around safely and comfortably indoors.

Q. Parking?

A. Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd. is providing free parking at all parking lots Saturday, Feb 27 & Sunday, Feb 28 along the Halifax waterfront.

Q. What Should I Wear?

A. Dress for the elements, in Nova Scotia the weather can change drastically at any moment. Consult the weather network before heading to the Winterfest and dress accordingly, keeping in mind that most of the events take place outdoors. Hats, scarves and mittens are recommended along with heavy layers to stay cozy while having a fun time.
